Negros Occidental | Tragedy and Love Story, The Ruins of Talisay City

$
0
0
Romeo and Juliet, Beauty and the Beast, Jack and Rose; All the stories of these classic love affairs is nothing compared to the story behind the beautiful and majestic The Ruins in Talisay City or commonly known as The Taj Mahal of Negros.

The Ruins of Talisay City

By its name, The Ruins, you can tell that its story is a tale as old as time. A love that still lives; a love that does not die; The Ruins has been labeled as the Taj Mahal of Negros for the reason that the story behind why this famous structure was built is actually identical to the story behind Taj Mahal.

The Ruins of Talisay City

A Landmark of  A Beautiful Love Story

This remarkable landmark was built by Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson in order to honor, dedicate and remember his beautiful wife, Maria Braga.

The story begins with a handsome bachelor, Don Mariano, who came from a well-off family and has a love for seeing the world. And in an unexpected time and place, during one of his visits in Hong Kong, the surprising happened. It was in Hong Kong where he met the gorgeous Maria Braga. It didn’t take long for him to show his interest towards her and through the course of time, the two got married.

The couple decided to settle in one of the land owned by Don Mariano which is in Talisay. And from then on, through time, Maria bore a child, the two ended up having 10 children. And during the pregnancy of Maria for their 11th child, a terrible accident had happened. Maria accidentally slipped while she was in the bathroom, which caused her to bleed extensively. The accident was really painful for Maria that even traveling to the physician was close to impossible for her. So Don Mariano decided to send one of his horsemen to fetch the physician but it would take two days to get to the physician.

During this time, Don Mariano took care of his wife but even before the physician arrived, both Maria and their child were not able to survive.

The Ruins of Talisay City

Devastated and torn with the death of his wife and child, Don Mariano decided to build a house for his children who are yet married; this is so that he would slowly let go of the grief in his heart. He told his plan to his father-in-law, and he supported this idea by giving Don Mariano extra funds and as well as some design plans as a guide.

And that is the story of this beautiful mansion that even survived during the times of World War II, a story borne out of love and strengthening family bonds.

The Ruins Today

Mr. Raymund Javellana, grandson of Mercedes (one of the daughters of Don Mariano), developed The Ruins. The remains of the mansion is now being recognized as one of the 12 most fascinating ruins in the world.

Today, aside from the mansion, The Ruins has a café, restaurant, mini-gold course and stores that are frequented by many visitors and even tourists. You can also meet Roger, the funny tour guide of The Ruins. He became famous because of his funny lines/stints while guiding the visitors. His video while touring a group inside the mansion went viral on YouTube, which leads him to different TV shows and also, became his passport to Big Brother’s house in 2015.

Cebu | Bojo River Cruise in Aloguinsan

$

One fine Saturday of January, I embarked on a journey which made me realize that nature indeed has a lot to offer most especially when it is willfully protected and carefully preserved. Aloguinsan River is wonderfully a great example. A group of local fisher folks and their families guided by the Local Government Unit (LGU) is actively preserving and protecting the beautiful Bojo River in Aloguinsan while they earn concurrently. It is indeed an awesome Saturday of journey towards ecology and culture ̶ an exploration that is not only brimming with beauty and wonders but is also loaded with knowledge and enlightenment. You will surely come out of the journey with your mind and heart filled deeper with love and understanding of the Mother Nature.

Bojo River of Aloguinsan

To start with, Bojo River Cruise is a part of Aloguinsan River Eco-cultural Tour. Bojo River is a long, sea-green trail snaking through the mangrove-filled land until it opens into the wide blue sea. As one might have guessed, you certainly will not be tedious during the trip for you will be enraptured with all the beauty that nature brings around you while the tour guide/s knowledgeably fills you in about what you are seeing.

Bojo River of Aloguinsan

How To Get There

From Cebu City
  • From Cebu City South Bus Terminal, ride in a bus or van bound to Aloguinsan.
From Bacolod City/San Carlos City Negros Occidental
  • Ride in a bus bound to San Carlos City.
  • Roro/fast craft ride from San Carlos City to Toledo City, then;
From Toledo City (or if you are from this city)
    • Hire a multicab (if in group, it’s cheaper). I recommend Manong Toting─ 09276477087, or;
    • Hire a habal─ habal that will directly bring you to the spot, or;
    • Ride in public utility jeepney bound to Aloguinsan (much cheaper but you have to wait for other passengers),
    From Aloguinsan Terminal
    • Hire a habal─ habal (single motorcycle) that will take you to the jump─ off point (less than 10 minutes travel).

    Travel Notes
    • For those who would like to avail their buffet snack and lunch, a 2 days reservation (with advance deposit) is required. Menu includes ampalaya salad, humba, sikwate and other local dishes. Healthily, ingredients are all─ organic and sourced from their own demo farm.
    • Aloguinsan Eco─ cultural River Cruise is open from Mondays to Sundays, 8:00Am to 5:00PM. Better check and refer to a Chinese calendar (for low and high tide schedules) since river cruise is available only during high tide.
    • February to May is the best season for snorkeling.

    Bojo River of Aloguinsan

    The River Cruise

We were introduced to the mangrove trees of various species and their vital functions in the environment. They certainly have numbers of important roles for the ecosystem but one that was greatly emphasized is its function as a marine life protector. With the life it promotes, both the government and non-government environmental organizations met and took the initiative to implement policies and laws concerning the preservation of such lives. In here, you will discover that the true beauty of these mangrove trees lies not in the lush green leaves or the strong wooden trunks but on the protection they partake in the intricate workings of nature ̶ where everything is interconnected.

Of course, with hundreds of healthy trees in the place which making sure that the waters are teeming with life, you may also imagine the birds flapping their wings around and above you! It has been identified that there are around sixty-one (61) bird species within the area. To better appreciate the whole trip, you can bring additional materials with you, say binoculars, cameras, and such.

The lengthy river cruise lasts for approximately 3 hours of amazement while learning in enjoyment!

Thinking about your stomach or the foods maybe? You may want to bring some snacks with you, in case you get hungry but this will hardly be a problem at all. This cruise palatably prepares snacks and buffet lunch that await you! Seriously, you really cannot miss this one!

With the scenery close to perfection, the protection, preservation and maintenance is utmost necessary, thus, the proceeds from this cruise packages are used to fund such local community’s wildlife protection projects. Moreover, the whole river cruise is not just about introducing it to people, encouraging them to proactively care for the nature and educating them with the importance of nurturing and protecting the environment but purposively providing livelihood and earnings for the local families. Can anything be more beautiful than this?

Hence, you are taking a big step forward in helping the environment just by participating in the Bojo River Cruise. Spread the word and help the movement in the name of Mother Nature. See you there!

5 Interesting Waterfalls You Must Visit in the Philippines

    $
    0
    0
Along with white sand beaches and volcanic islands, waterfalls are the most iconic feature of the Philippines. Practically anywhere you'll go, you can find jaw dropping waterfalls that are worth a visit. The great thing about having a day at waterfall is how they provide a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.

    Maria Cristina Falls

You could swim at the cool waters, or take a thrilling cliff jump or a canyoneering trail. No matter what, a visit to a waterfalls guarantees a fun day for the whole family. Since each site is unique and different, i've created this list of the best waterfalls to visit in the Philippines to help you make your choice.

The locations are listed in no particular order, as choosing between them is mostly a matter of personal taste. Some are harder to reach, and booking a tour package is recommended. More often than not, you can combine several waterfalls in a single day, to make your trip even more fun.

    Kawasan Falls

Undoubtedly one of the most famous waterfalls in the country, and the pinnacle of any holiday at Cebu Island. Kawasan falls are truly impressive, and provide a great place for families to picnic and swim in the pool below.

What's really great about this place is how many different ways there are to reach it. The waterfalls are very easy to reach by just taking a tricycle or a taxi, but there are other, more exciting routes if you're up for it. You could take the canyoneering tour, one of the most thrilling adventures you'll ever have. Another great option is hiking from Osmeña Peak – a beautiful trek that will fill your whole day.

    Maria Cristina Falls

The 2nd highest waterfall in the Philippines, and certainly one of the most impressive ones. When you visit this place, you'll be blown away by the noise and sheer power emanating from it. The falls are used to power the Iligan hydro plant – providing electricity to the entire Northern Mindanao.

Due to the strong currents and deep waters, swimming is prohibited at the Maria Cristina Falls. You can only come and watch them from the view deck nearby at the NPC building. Don't worry, it still makes for a great visit – marveling at the beauty of nature. There's a small canteen and an ice cream shop nearby, so it's also a very nice opportunity to take a seat and relax a bit if you are hiking through Iligan's waterfalls.

    Maria Cristina Falls

    Tinago Falls

Iligan's 2nd entry to this list, and just as impressive and special as the first. This hidden gem is a great alternative to Maria Cristina, since here you can swim and hang around for as long as you please. Since it's hard to compare the two, the best idea is to just visit both on the same day – they are only 4 kilometers apart!

Keep in mind though that the trail to the falls consists of no less than 500 stairways. It might seem pretty easy when you make your way down to the Falls, but don't forget you'll have to climb back up later on. If you are traveling with elderly people, that might prove a challenge. Food and drinks are also quite hard to come by, so bring them with you if you plan to spend some time there.

    Tinago Falls

    Pagsanjan Falls

There are plenty of great waterfalls in the Laguna province, but Pagsanjan is probably the most famous of them all. This waterfall is the perfect escape from Manila – for people who wish to spend a day or 2 in nature. You will quickly forget all the noise and dirt of the city, as you embrace the beauty all around you.

The falls themselves are very impressive, especially during the rainy season when the current is stronger. It's possible to take a wooden raft, sail under the pouring water and into a small cove behind it. You'll then have some time to swim in the deep waters over there, before making your way back to town.

The most special thing about Pagsanjan Falls is that the trail to them is just as amazing as the falls themselves. You'll be amazed by the scenery around you as you make your way through the narrow canyons on a kayak. The boat ride takes over an hour, but time really flies by when you are at one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines.

    Pagsanjan Falls

    Tamaraw Falls

This is another great option not far from Manila. Tamaraw Falls are located in Mindoro, just 25 minutes away from Puerto Galera. While there are certainly more impressive waterfalls in the country, these offer a great location and can easily be combined into a larger Puerto Galera tour package. Tamaraw Falls provide a great change of scenery from the typical attraction of this fabulous town – its amazing beaches and diving spots.

Tamaraw Falls are actually a series of smaller streams and waterfalls, joined together to create a nice pool area at the bottom. The waters are cool and refreshing, and there's also a nice and quiet picnic area nearby. Tamaraw are the most beautiful and impressive, but there are at least 3 other waterfalls near Puerto Galera that are also worth a visit.

Talipanan, Aninuan and Tukuran Falls are all additional great places for a stop during your day tour. They each have their own special charm, and different attractions nearby. If you have to pick just one, I recommend going to Talipanan Falls. That way, you can first visit the Mangyan Village nearby, then take a 20 minutes walk to the falls.

    0
Among the wonderful lakes found in Negros Oriental, Lake Danao and Lake Balinsasayao are just two promising lakes in the province. Naturally formed and created by volcanic eruption and tectonic faults. Although, they are separated with each other and Lake Danao is about a 10-meter trek up from Lake Balinsasayao, these are like twins which being fed by the slender little Olayan Falls ahead of them.

    Balinsasayao Twin Lakes of Sibulan

Highly maintained and well protected, the natural park is taken care by the Balinsasayao Farmers Association although the management is still under the provincial government itself. These members are responsible for life within the area. They are also the ones who brought back the park in life and restoration which eventually bear the fruit of rich forest and bountiful water ecosystems. Concurrently, they earn as they preserved and protect. Read also my feature on Aloguinsan River Cruise.

And if you are thinking about the food, maybe you shall not for there is a restaurant situated in the viewing deck of the Lake Balinsasayao. So, feed your tummy as you feed your eyes. There are also snack packs sold by the Balinsasayao Farmers Association together with the souvenirs they have for visitors at prices you surely will not hesitate for buying what you want.

    Balinsasayao Twin Lakes of Sibulan

Bohol | Cadapdapan Rice Terraces and Can-Umantad Falls of Candijay

    $
    0
    0
There’s more to Bohol than what most travel itineraries of travel agencies offer. The usual trips to Chocolate Hills, see the Tarsiers, etc. is fine, but there is more jewels and treasures that can be found in Bohol if you just take more time to look. These places aren’t ones that you usually see on ads but they should be. These places are ones that would take your breath away and give you another side of Bohol that you might not have known of. Some of these hidden treasures are the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces and the Can-umantad Falls of Candijay.

    Candijay, Bohol

    Cadapdapan Rice Terraces

Banaue isn’t the only place in the Philippines that has rice terraces. Yes, even Bohol has created its own version of rice terraces. There are actually quite a lot of rice terraces in the area such as in the towns of Sierra Bullones, Lila and Jagna, but almost everyone would agree that the rice terraces in Candijay is the one that all visitors must see. Locals believe that natives of the area were the ones who created this magnificent structure many years ago. In size, it might be nothing compared to the Banaue Rice Terraces, but in terms of its overall look, it sure is as beautiful.

    Cadapdapan Rice Terraces

The dominant color immediately seen here is verdant green or golden yellow (during harvest seasons) which is best appreciated when the sun is up. This rice terraces expands over at the mountain slopes of Barangay Cadapdapan which is irrigated through the waters coming from Cadapdapan River (which is actually the same river that flows to Can-Umantad Falls). Although there isn’t much to do here, it is a sight to behold that one must see whenever they get the chance to visit Bohol.

    Cadapdapan Rice Terraces

    Cadapdapan Rice Terraces

    Can-Umantad Falls

Just a couple of minutes away (or I must say just below) from Cadapdapan Rice Terraces, the wonderful waterfalls await its visitors. It is claimed by the locals to be the highest waterfalls of not that area of Bohol, but of actually the whole Bohol.

    Can-umantad Falls

The falls main cascade towers at a height of 60 feet high (image how high that is!) and it has a total of three layers that have boulder structures in which gives a unique outlook of how the water flows down. The basin of the waterfalls is very shallow, so there’s no need to worry of not knowing how to swim. (But it is quite rocky, so best to wear shoes made for them). A little down the falls, you’d see the next cascade which is smaller than the initial one. And its water drops into a small but clean green pool. This is where most visitors choose to relax and enjoy the scenery. The falls offer clean, fresh, and cool water; perfect for those looking for a way to cool off from that intense heat.

    Can-umantad Falls

    Travel Notes
    • Eleuterio’s Can-Umantad Falls and Rice Terraces Resort Inc. manages Cadapdapan rice terraces. Entrance fee: P20 per person; parking fee: P10 (for motorbike); and P20 (for private cars)
    • Not for fainthearted! From Cadapdapan Rice Terraces you have to trek down the more or less 500 steps to get to Can-Umantad Falls.
    • If you want to avoid the trek going down to Can-Umantad falls (slippery during rainy days) then the difficult climb back to the rice terraces, after visiting Cadapdapan rice terraces, you can hire a habal-habal from the farm going to the other much easier jump-off point. A more or less 10-minute habal-habal ride and a short walk, this jump-off point was developed by the Local Government Unit and no entrance fee as of this writing- just register in the logbook.
    • Wear comfortable clothes and hiking shoes
    • Last but the most important, DON'T LITTER!

    How to Get There

Fly to Bohol. From Tagbilaran City, ride in a bus or van routing Ubay. Alight in crossing Lungsod Daan. From crossing, hire a habal-habal that will take you to Cadapdapan Rice Terraces. For habal-habal ride, I recommend Along Pesana [+639481500945] , a local of Cadapdapan.

Banahaw in Barangay Gagalot, Majayjay, Laguna will never stop linger in your mind until you grab the chance to get there.

    Costales Nature Farms

The famous Costales Nature Farms is initiated by IT specialist couple, Ronald and Josephine Costales. Thinking about the future, agriculture has been the ideal retirement life they wanted apart from the fact that farming has been a part of their childhood, although, they have opened partnership with several Overseas Filipino Workers and CNF when the need to expand was strongly demanding. It is a 5 hectare home of different organic fruits, vegetables, flowers, herbs, spices, livestock, poultry and rabbits, sealed and stamped with an organic certification by NiCert. For more than ten years now, the farm have been known as the first and premiere Agri-tourism destination in the Philippines accredited by both DA’s Agricultural Training Institute and Department of Tourism (DOT).

    Costales Nature Farms

From a simple backyard farm just for easy access of organic produce for family consumption, the sustainable farming system in the operation has gained popularity that made them decide to open the farm for tourism with intent of sharing their knowledge in farming until well known restaurants reached out to them for supplies of organic produce such as Italianni’s, Solaire, Shopwise, Rustan’s, Healthy Options and Cibo. These are where some of the farm’s organic produce are marketed. Costales Nature Farm is in fact the Philippine’s largest producer of organic vegetables and herbs.

Bohol | Quinale Beach and the famous Tilapia Chips of Anda

    $

    0
With the thousands of islands here in the Philippines, it comes to no surprise for both local and foreign tourists the wondrous destinations here that are definitely worth to visit. One best place with lots of amazing things to see and visit is Bohol. The Chocolate Hills and the Panglao Island are the most famous destinations in the province. Aside from are Blood Compact Shrine, Loboc River, Baclayon Church and a lot more that Bohol can offer for a great visit. However, apart from these known to be on-the-list attractions, there lies a beautiful beach in Bohol that has yet to be discovered by many - the Quinale Beach of Anda.

    Quinale Beach of Anda, Bohol

Bohol always surprises me! After visiting Candijay’s Cadapdapan Rice Terraces and Can-Umantad Falls, my wandering soles brought me to the northeastern part of the province which is less visited by tourists, the Municipality of Anda. It is a 5th class municipality, a more or less 2-hour ride from the capital, Tagbilaran City. Less crowded and no major developments but this humble part of the province is teeming with the gift of nature!

    Quinale Beach of Anda, Bohol

    Good Morning Anda!

Beautiful smiles welcomed us as we approached a group of vendors in the public market. It’s around six in the morning – we’re looking for a restaurant where we can have our breakfast. A kind old man directed us to a carinderia stall nearby. Fresh tinolang malasugue at paksiw na bangus plus mainit na 3-in-1 coffee - OA na pero ito ang best breakfast para sa'kin. :)

After having that best breakfast, we had a short walk from the public market going to the longest beachline in the province of Bohol. Yep, just a short walk and it's fronting the town’s catholic church.

    Quinale Beach of Anda, Bohol

Quinale Beach of Anda is not a famous yet compared to more developed and known beaches in Panglao Island but majority of those who visited here compared this to the great beaches in Boracay – and yep, I agree. Why? Because its long stretch of fine white sand resembling to white powder can get you lost in its length. Not to mention its clear waters and visibly plain sand beds which shows no presence of any rocks or seaweeds make it a reason why many argue that Quinale Beach of Anda is actually better than the beaches of Boracay. Since this isn’t a very popular destination yet, there aren’t a lot of people visiting the beach, making it perfect for those who want to really get away from the crowd of the city.

There is a humble bar found near the beach where you and your friends or family can enjoy some refreshing drinks or eat some delicious yet affordable foods. Most foods they have are lightweight snacks though. Nearby this bar is the tourist center of the town.

    Quinale Beach of Anda, Bohol

In the afternoon, a beautiful sight unfolded. Many locals went to the beach, brought some snacks, mats, and picnic baskets with them just to watch and enjoy the waves hitting and splashing in the shore. What makes this a beautiful sight is that you can clearly see how these locals appreciate the beach. They show and extend to tourists how they take care of it. You won’t even have problems when it comes to finding a place to eat. You can opt to eat just under the hut, a tree, or even in an open space while enjoying the sun. If you are with a big group, you can go to the bar and avail some tables and chairs for rent. You even have the choice to make a bonfire if you’d like.

And if you still can’t get enough of the beauty of this beach, you can stay for a camp overnight. Well, just be sure to bring your own tent. Taking showers or going to the loo won’t be a problem too. The bar has toilets, changing rooms, and open showers available for any visitor of the beach.

    Quinale Beach of Anda, Bohol

Just in case you want to chill somewhere else after taking a dip in the beach, there are still lots of resorts around the beach where you can hop for another experience, all of which offer great amenities and services.

So, if you’d been dreaming to swim in the great beaches of Boracay or looking for something even better, the magnificent Quinale Beach of Anda should be your next destination.

    Quinale Beach of Anda, Bohol

Tilapia Chips, The Best Pasalubong from Anda

So, what’s the best pasalubong from Anda? Have you heard about tilapia chips? Yep, Anda is a home of the fame Tilapia Chips of TAFIAS. TAFIAS stands for Talisay Fishermen’s Association, a promising village association in one of the Barangays in Anda headed by Mrs. Ana Mainit who have been known for their tilapia chips and other unique and interesting products with raw materials all sourced from the community’s purely organic resources!

While doing our usual fieldwork, a couple approached us and invited us to pay a visit to TAFIAS office, production and display center. There is a small canteen in the area where you can take and taste their locally-made products such as blue ternate juice and wine; blue ternate or chili flavored ice cream and of course the Tilapia Chips. Eventually, they generously allowed us to go inside of the production area and witness the old style production of Tilapia Chips.

IN PHOTOS | Masskara Festival 2017 of Bacolod City

Masskara Festival is Bacolod City’s annual festival showcasing the happiest and the most colorful festival in the country. It is a month-long celebration of concerts, food fests, street parties, and a lot more enjoyable activities with highlights on the fourth Sunday of October.

    Masskara Festival 2017

The festival was first kicked off in 1980 when Bacolod City had an economic shaking tragedy that lead them to a great crisis. The city's artists, local government and civic groups decided to initiate a festival of smiles to which the place was known since then, “City of Smiles”. This had also been the best way they thought that could pull out their people from the gloom brought by the Don Juan Tragedy.

"Masskara" means a multitude of faces. It is a portmanteau of mass (a multitude of people) and the Spanish word cara (face). It is also a witticism of the Filipino word mascara (mask) since the festival prominently features masks with smiling faces symbolizing the city’s remarks being the city of smiles.

For the year’s feast, Masskara Festival 2017 theme is “Bacolod: City of Southeast Asia”. Highlights of the event are on October 21-22, 2017 - the Street and Arena Dance Competitions. It is where contenders ostentatiously dress in their colourful costumes wearing their masks in smiling faces and dance to the beat of blended ASEAN and traditional Filipino music. Prizes at stake are to be competed by 15 barangays and 11 schools on October 21-22.

There are many famous destinations in Bohol that have been under the radar of many travelers, but recently another destination has now been added on that list. Hidden between the wide and massive forests between two towns in Bohol, Trinidad and San Miguel, lays a beautiful treasure that is way beyond your expectations. Kawasan Falls is one of the gems in the province that is now being promoted by the local government as well as a way to improve ecotourism in the province.

    Kawasan Falls in Trinidad, Bohol

Located in Barangay San Isidro, Trinidad Bohol, Kawasan Falls is a breathtaking waterfall that has a 20 meter high drop in the middle of deep green forest, giving a refreshing sight for those who hike, camp, or travel in the forest. The beautiful and clear cascading water from the falls gives a perfect contrast to the green color from the plants surrounding the waterfalls.

At the bottom of the falls is a small pool that leads to a creek emphasized by huge and wide boulders, similar to pebbles that are found to be distributed along the area. At its side, the abundance of vegetation is easily noticeable. There are tall trees that have a deep green color with broad shaped leaves. The overall look of the waterfall gives it a mysterious feel which has actually added to one of the reasons why visitors and locals find it very inviting.

    Kawasan Falls in Trinidad, Bohol
The water is little murky during our visit due to heavy rains the past few days

For those looking to see things from a bit of height, there is cliff near one of the pool’s edge that can already be considered quite a challenge even by regular rock climbers.

    Kawasan Falls in Trinidad, Bohol

The local government in the area had a goal to make Kawasan Falls a traveler-friendly destination which actually resulted to having the entrance fee to the falls at a very cheap price. And because of its cheap price, Kawasan Falls has now become a destination for families, friends, and companies, who wish to have an affordable but wonderful outing. There is also a viewing deck created for those who just wish to go to the falls to relax and listen to the water flow and the trees sway. Other than its cheap entrance fee, there are now concrete steps and improved roads established so that access to Kawasan Falls would be easier for any nature lover that would want to see the beauty of the waterfalls.

    Kawasan Falls in Trinidad, Bohol

There are visitors who travel around the forest first before they take a dip in the falls. The falls is the perfect way to refresh yourself after all that walking. The splashing water can be a good alternative to getting yourself a full body massage. You get to see a spectacular falls and get a massage as well for such a cheap price.

Kawasan Falls is quite far from the city, making it the destination for people who feel the need and want to have that time away from the noisy, crowded, and busy city.

4 Major French Cities Out of the Beaten Path

    $
    0
    0
A trip to France tops the list of most people who travel or want to travel to Europe. Who doesn't dream of seeing the City of Lights from the top of the Eiffel Tower, visiting the Notre Dame Cathedral, seeing the Monalisa in the Louvre or going on a cruise on the river Seine? The truth is, when it comes to travelling to France, most people think about Paris only. And with a good reason, because Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with a lot of charm, character and a lot to offer.

But there are many large French cities worth a visit that most tourists shun or know little about. So today I will share with you some of the less visited cities you should include in your trip to France.

    Shall we start?

    Grenoble

    Grénoble

The city of Grénoble is most visited during winter, since it's the gateway to the French Alps. This charming mountain city is located between two important rivers, the Drac and the Isère, known as the lion and the serpent. The area is perfect for skiers of all levels, from complete beginners to veterans.

Grénoble, which hosted the Winter Olympic Games in the late 1960s, has one of the most beautiful backdrops in France and abounds charm, with its snowy mountain chains. The local ski resorts offer some of the best infrastructures in Europe, with many hotels and chalets. And chalets in France, especially in the Alps, offer accommodation of another level.

    Marseille

Marseille is such an important city that the French national anthem is called La Marseillaise. But the oldest and second largest city in France and has always had a reputation for being an underdog - not clean enough, too chaotic and so on. Thank goodness all that has changed now and Marseille is one of the most cosmopolitan, vibrant cities in France and has a lot to offer any visitors.

The area surrounding the Old Harbour has undergone a huge transformation and today it has plenty of cafes and restaurants. The area also has a few farmer's markets selling fresh produce from all over the Provence and local delicacies. Some market stalls also sell more exotic items, such as lavender macarons, something that will please those with a sweet tooth.

    Marseille - Old Harbour

Another important landmark is the Notre-Dame de la Garde Cathedral. Standing on a hilltop at the summit of Marseille, you can have amazing views of the whole city and the sea. It's possible to get there on foot, if you're up for a steep climb that will literally take your breath away. Otherwise, some bus lines can take you there, as well.

Le Panier, the historical part the Marseille, is easily accessible from the Old Harbour. It's been inhabited since 600 BC and is one of the most picturesque Old Towns in France.

    Marseille - Notre Dame

    Nantes

The city of Nantes is at the crossroads between Brittany and the Loire. It is the main city in the Loire-Atlantique region and it's a large, bustling city with a well-preserved Old Town, a fine castle and a cultural and arts scene to put most French cities to shame. Despite all this, Nantes is hardly ever in people's top 10 list of cities to visit in France.

My recommendation to explore the city is to first visit the Château des Ducs de Bretagne. Built in the early 13th century, it served as the home of the Dukes of Brittany for over 300 years. Today, the castle is home to the Nantes History Museum, displaying items that highlight the region's heritage.

Nantes- Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne

Summer is when Nantes really comes to life. That's when the city hosts many music festivals, open air cultural events and exhibitions. One of the city's quirkiest attractions is Les Machines de l'île, a unique project that mixes Jules Verne's "invented worlds" and Leonardo da Vinci's mechanical universe. The first figure to be made in the old Nantes shipyard was the big elephant. Now there are also the sea snake and the manta ray.

Nantes is also in the part of La Loire à Vélo, an 800km cycling route that takes you along rivers, castles, farms and crosses beautiful cities like Angers, Saumur and Tours, to name a few.

    Nantes- Machines de l ile

    Lille

This city in northern France, near the border with Belgium, is the historical capital of Flanders and a great detour on a trip between Paris and Brussels. Lille became part of France in the early 18th century under the Treaty of Utrecht and the Flemish architecture can be seen all around the city.

Any trip to Lille will most likely start at the Grand Place, officially called Place du Général de Gaulle, in honour to the city's most famous son. The square is surrounded by Flemish-style buildings with striking neoclassical facades. Here you will also find the Vieille Bourse, a collection of some of the most beautiful buildings in the city. And needless to say, the Grand Place is the perfect place to sit down at a pretty cafe or a restaurant serving the best of French and Flemish cuisines.

Another important landmark is the Museum of Fine Arts or Palais des Beaux-Arts, considered the second most beautiful museum in France after the Louvre. The museum proud itself of owning masterpieces by Goya, Rubens and Delacroix, among other famous painters. A few miles outside Lille, you can visit some important museums, such as the Louvre-Lens, which boasts two hundred pieces from the original Louvre in Paris.

    Lille - Grand Place

These are only a few of many cities in France that are not only beautiful, but also offer a large number of attractions to suit pretty much any travellers taste.

Have you been to France? Which less visited cities would you recommend?

Sinulog Festival 2018 Schedule of Events and Activities

    0
The Philippines is set to celebrate one of its grandest and largest festivals on the 3rd Sunday of January 2018, the Sinulog Festival. It is a celebration that pronounces the Cebuanos' cultural identity and religiosity. It's gonna be an exciting day of colors, tradition, pageantry, street party and the awaited Grand Parade.

    Sinulog Festival 2018

Sinulog Festival is held in commemoration of the reminiscence when Ferdinand Magellan handed the statue of the child Jesus Santo Niño de Cebú (Cebuano: Balaang Bata sa Sugbo, Filipino: Batang Banal ng Cebu, Spanish: Santo Niño de Cebú) as a baptismal gift to Rajah Humabon and his wife after being christened to Catholicism in 1521. This event stood to welcome the entry of Catholicism in the Philippines which rapidly spreadth all over the country. Historically, the original image of Santo Niño has brought so much mysterious blessings to the natives of Cebu in various instances.

For the year 2018, the festival is scheduled to blast a bash on the 21st of January. With a theme “One Beat. One Dance, One Nation ". The anticipated Grand Parade which takes 9-12 hours of the event will begin at the Basilica Minore Del Santo Nino, the current home of the original statue of the child Jesus.

The festive rounds in a maximum of 9 days and a week before the big day, there is a Sinulog sa Kabataan as they called where the youth separately performs

    Sinulog Festival 2017

When to go to Cebu City

The Sinulog grand day is a big fun event, an all day celebration which will definitely rip off your energy which you wouldn't love so for you not to miss moments you are there for. So ideally, be in Cebu 2-3 days before the grand day and grab the chance to witness the city before it gets crowded on the day. However, being there in Cebu a week before the grand is more perfect since Sinulog sa Kabataan will kick off by then.

    Where to stay in Cebu

If you've got no relatives or friends to stay into when you get there, it is a perfect thought of booking yourself in hotels the earliest possible you can to get away from the stress of fully booked accommodations. Sinulog is a big event so plenty of tourists and travellers are expected to be in. Beneficially, online booking is cheaper and hassle-free.

What to Wear During the Grand Day

Sinulog is literally a wet and colorful event so preferably wear the most comfy but not the classy and ostentatious clothing you have. The simplest and lightest decent clothes would do since it is a tradition of the locals to splash water and paints to the people in the event and also liquor rains when you get into the party.

    Traffic Advisory

Major roads on January 21, during the Sinulog Festival Grand Parade will be closed to facilitate the whole event. The public and motorists are advised to take notifications of the traffic and road closures to avoid confusion.

Note: The actual schedule will be updated once released by the festival organizers.

Travel Guide| Interesting Spots and Things to do in Bohol Province

There are more than 7,600 islands here in the Philippines! And each island, each province, has a lot of beautiful and breathtaking destinations that cannot even be counted by two hands. One province here in the Philippines that seems like it has an unlimited things to see and to do is Bohol.

    Travel Guide Bohol

Bohol is a popular destination for any traveler in the world because of the combination of unique activities and sites it has. To avoid having a headache on finding each and every single best thing to do and the best places to see, here is a list of interesting spots and fun activities in Bohol.

    Chocolate Hills

This uniquely formed mole like hill is the most famous attraction in Bohol. How so? Because of the fact that it changes colors, hence its name, and because up-to-date scientists still debate about how the hills were actually formed.

    Chocolate Hills, Bohol

    Tarsier Sanctuary

It is no doubt that Tarsiers are unique and cute animals that can catch the attention of any person. Located in between Corella and Sikatuna is where you will find a place that homes these adorable animals. Try not to be too loud and too touchy, these creatures are very shy.

    Tarsier, Bohol

    Balicasag Island

Off the Coast of Panglao Island is a small island with fine sand, crystal blue waters, and beautiful corals. Balicasag Sanctuary is a must visit destination for those who love to go under the sea. Divers consider this a heaven on water.

Personal Note : During our visit, low pressure hinders us to dive and explore the beauty of Balicasag marine world. Not to spoil this trip, we decided to just stay in the island - talk with the locals, enjoyed its amazing beach  (with bottles of fav beer and good stories) then visited the old lighthouse.

    Balicasag Island
The eastern and southern side of Balingasag Island is perfect for beach lovers - fine golden sands and perfect sunrise!

    Virgin Island in Panglao

An island that is away from the crowded city; Virgin Island, originally called as Puntod, is great for those who crave to feel sand on their toes, those who enjoy watching beautiful sunrise or sunset, and listen to waves as it hits the shore. Despite the (expected) crowd during weekends and holidays, it is still a serene and quiet place that can help you relax.

Note: The privately-owned other side of the island was renamed Isoli de Francisco (Island of Saint Francis) and was developed into a pilgrim site.

    Alona Beach in Panglao Island

Considered as a tropical paradise of Bohol, this beach is a go-to destination by many mainly because of two things: white and soft sandy beach, and world class diving spots. Plus, there are also many resorts in the area that can accommodate guests.

    Alona Beach in Panglao, Bohol

    Shrine of Sanduguan

A little history along with your travels is always a good thing. This shrine is a commemorative site of the blood compact that happened between Datu Sikatuna and Miguel Lopez de Legaspi. This shrine is well taken care of because it is considered a symbol of alliance and of friendship.

    Man-made Forest in Bilar

In Bilar you won’t get lost in the woods like little red riding hood, but you will get lost in awe in the Bilar man-made forest. This two kilometer long forest is packed with red and white mahogany trees that are amazing to watch when some of the leaves start to fall off. Even if the Philippines doesn’t have autumn, it sure feels like it does here.

    Bilar Man-made Forest

    Loboc River Cruise

It’s always nice to have river cruise in a place that is safe and hasn’t been too modernized. The whole trip is around an hour or an hour and half long, and in this river cruise you can enjoy a good meal served by locals that have been prepared to really give it that Bohol flavor.

    Loboc River, Bohol

    Hanging Bridge in Sevilla

If you want to challenge the daredevil in you, then try crossing the hanging bridge in Sevilla. This bridge is considered to be one of the most dangerous bridges in the WORLD.

    Visita Iglesia

Almost everywhere you go; you will find at least one church in an area. So what better way to thank god for the wonderful trip you had/will have then to stop by at the churches in Bohol. Most of the churches are old and all have good preservation of architecture.

    Quinale Beach in Anda

If the other beaches had white sandy beaches, then the Quinale Beach is the whitest sandy beach in Bohol. Some even argue that it’s whiter than that of Boracay’s. It’s clear water and sandy bed makes it a picture perfect beach destination. Yes, you read that right. Clear sandy bed, meaning no rocks at all.

    Cabagnow Cave Pool in Anda

There is more to Bohol than its beaches and chocolate hills. In Anda there are a lot of cave pools that are jaw dropping and gorgeous. One of which is the Cabagnow cave pool. The Cabagnow is said to be the deepest cave pool in Anda.

    Cadapdapan Rice Terraces in Candijay

Have a deep appreciation for great aesthetics? Then try taking a panoramic picture of the Candijay Rice Terraces and just enjoy the view. And more than just the view take in the fresh smell of air in the area and think about how pure it is.

    Kawasan Falls in Trinidad

Do you want to see what water from heaven looks like? Then head to Kawasan Falls of Barangay San Isidro in Trinidad. Kawasan falls has this beautiful cascading water that creates a small mist around a very peaceful area. Its whole atmosphere, the water, the rocks, the trees, and the wind, gives you a feeling that you’re in a fairy tale.

    Can-umantad Falls of Candijay

If Kawasan Falls didn’t leave you in awe, then Can-umantad falls will. Towering with a height of 60 feet, this falls is the tallest falls in Bohol. This 60 feet falls is divided into three layers that cascade beautifully in each layer as it falls to its drop. There are also nearby spring pools that you can go to.

    Can-umantad Falls in Bohol

Of course aside from Can-umantad Falls in Candijay and Kawasan Falls in Trinidad, more interesting and stunning waterfalls can be explored in the province. I had the chance to visit also two less-known waterfalls in the province during summer of 2017 – Pangas Falls of Bilar and the Mag-aso Falls of Antequera. Separate posts about these less-visited but equally beautiful waterfalls will be posted soon.

    HOW TO GET TO BOHOL
    From Manila

Catch a flight to Tagbilaran City which takes about 1 hour and 15 min or if you miss it, you can fly from Manila to Cebu. Head to the pier, then have a boat ride to Bohol. Yet, if you wanna sniff the sea breeze, riding in a ferry boat is a good choice. Spending about more or less 28 hours on the water is such so refreshing before starting an adventure to the island.

2Go shipping line is also offering a scheduled once-a-week voyage from Manila to Tagbilaran City which takes more or less 28 hours from the Eva Macapagal Super Terminal at Pier 15, Manila South Harbor.

    From Cebu

You’ve got couple of choices but all through via water and not by air. You can take a 1.5 hour-ride with a fast boat or a regular boat for about 4 hours before reaching Tagbilaran. You can also have a boat ride direct to Tubigon and Talibon. Other travellers are having a ferry boat ride though going to Tubigon and jump on a bus or a V-hire to Tagbilaran for it is cheaper and sometimes a faster way in reaching Tagbilaran.

    From Cagayan de Oro

Leaving Cagayan de Oro for Bohol is provided by only 2 transport companies bound to Jagna Seaport in the southern coast of Bohol. With only 2 trips on Saturday by Sulpicio Lines at 12:00 noon and 17:30 PM; 2 trips on Sundays and Thursdays by Cebu Ferries scheduled at 7:00 AM; 12:00 PM and 8:00 AM; 13:00 PM respectively. Costing about 600 for a 6 hour trip is not too much at all. But making everything smooth and fast, catching a flight from Cagayan to Tagbilaran City for just 55 minutes is a good choice.

    From Camiguin

If you are in Camiguin Islands and wanna transport by the sea, embark on a Super Shuttle Roro from Port of Balbagon, 500 for a ride, and in just 5 hours, you’ll be in Jagna, Bohol. However, it has only 3 schedules of trip in a week.

    From Davao

Although it is more expensive ranging from 4,300 to 16,000, it’s your luck if you got some promotions, but grabbing a flight is more convenient reaching Tagbilaran City in just 1.15 hours of fly. Considering budget tightness, transporting via land is of big difference. Riding in a bus to Agora, Cagayan de Oro costs 340-600 with 6 hours and 40 minutes travel. From Agora, head to the port and board on to Lite Ferries servicing twice daily for 6 hours. Estimated fare costs about 600 only.

    From Dumaguete

From Dumaguete, board on OceanJet ferry with schedules of twice daily for 2 hours. Fare ranges from 700-1,100 bound to Tagbilaran City.

    From Siquijor

OceanJet serves Larena- Tagbilaran (vice versa) route daily. The fastcraft leaves Port of Larena at 2:20PM and arrives in Tagbilaran Port at 3:40PM. Fare: Php700 for Open Air and Php1020 for Business Class.

    From Leyte

There are regular trips of RORO ferries and passenger boats from ports of Bato and Maasin in Souther Leyte going to the port of Ubay in in  Bohol.

Another option, from Ormoc, Leyte, board for a transfer to Cebu City which takes 2 hours. Prepare a fare budget of 740. Schedules of trip is as plenty as 4 hours interval per trip.

    WHERE TO STAY IN BOHOL

And of course your trip would never be officially over if you have not bought any pasalubong for your family and friends. In Bohol, the best pasalubong you can bring home that really showcases the province are their peanut kisses. Not only are these little sweets delicious but they’re also cheap. So go on ahead and hoard as much as you can for yourself and for your loved ones.

Bohol is indeed a place worth visiting for which offers a package of remarkable history and culture, awesome lands and waters, diverse wildlife and other wonderful sites. Life is short and the best way to live it is to see the world around you. Tara, let’s explore Bohol!

Not all [interesting] spots and things to do in Bohol are listed here, I just included all these places and activities I personally visited/experienced. Rates are correct as of the published date. Help me in updating this travel guide, please comment down below other interesting spots and things to do in Bohol Province.

Bohol | Cabagnow Cave Pool of Anda

    $
    0
    0
Longing for white-sand beaches that surpass even that of Boracay’s? Head on to Anda, Bohol. The place boasts its clean and unspoiled beaches. Around the vicinity of the area, you can see no trash as you can only see natural wastes such as coconuts, wood, shells and sea grasses being washed ashore. Anda, Bohol, by far, is a precious gem that is yet to be discovered.

Cabagnow Cave Pool in Anda, Bohol

Anda is mostly covered with limestones and it was due to the accumulation during the early and middle Miocene era, which was around 20 million years ago. This is why the place is called the Anda Limestone. Since the place is mostly limestone, the nature of the rocks then is soft. After some time, due to geologic activities and water as an agent of dispersal, a cave is formed. This is why Anda has a lot of cave pools and not just the Cabagnow Cave Pool.

Lies in the place is numerous diving sites, burial caves, rugged terrain, cliffs, falls, and even the shrine of “Inday Potenciana” is there. But one of the best tourist spots found there is the Cabagnow Cave Pool.

Cabagnow Cave Pool in Anda, Bohol

Cabagnow Cave Pool is the deepest among other cave pools found around the area. It lies in the Southeastern part of the province. This 25-feet deep cave pool is called Cabagnow or Kabagno because it is particularly a hole in the ground. Without the help of a ladder, you cannot get out of it. It is basically impossible!

The way towards the place is muddy during our visit (because of the non-stop rain the past few days); and yep, the road is rough. After a more or less 5-minute walk from the parking area/jump-off point, we reached the cave pool. All the efforts paid because Cabagnow Cave Pool was a great destination.

Cabagnow Cave Pool in Anda, Bohol

Little did others know that the Cabagnow Cave Pool is a private property. At the entrance, you can see that the place is surrounded with rustic gate. Before you can enter, you must have to find first the caretaker, Kuya Charlie [+639124145098].

Cabagnow Cave Pool in Anda, Bohol

The fresh water mixes with the saline water once the high tide comes. This place is very popular to people residing near Anda and to weekenders. But the most distinguishing character of the place is the color of its water. Depending on the weather condition and the sun, the color of the water is sometimes emerald green or usually irresistibly deep blue! It’s the hue of blue color that will make you want to dive or take some dip in the cold waters. Based on my experience, the cave pool is not that deep. In the deepest part of it, you can see its sandy bottom. A ring buoy is also available in the place for non-swimmers to enjoy.

Cabagnow Cave Pool in Anda, Bohol

Cabagnow Cave Pool in Anda, Bohol

    HOW TO GET THERE

If you are from Manila, you can catch a flight and fly to Tagbilaran, Bohol. From there, ride a tricycle heading to Dao Terminal. You can ride a bus or van to Anda and this will take around 2.5 to 3 hours. This will only cost you around 100 pesos. Once you have reached Anda, you can ride a tricycle or habal-habal to the Cabagnow Cave Pool. Contact the place’s caretaker, Kuya Charlie and pay for the entrance fee. The entrance fee will cost you 50 pesos per head.

7 Effective Tips for Writing a Case Study

    $
    0
    0
Learn how to write a formidable case study using the tips we provide. If you follow the work structure properly your paper will get the maximum grade.

Do you still have difficulties with writing a case study? When you read through the following article you’ll no longer be feeling helpless. The tips we provide are primarily aimed at expanding one’s knowledge in the matters of academic writing.

As many students admit, the key problem with case studies is that they involve a thorough investigation of a particular situation, which is always unique and requires individual approach to the task resolving. Applying some ready-to-use template won’t do much favor in this case; the key to a puzzle is held by the provided data.

    Stating Objectives

In this section, it is recommended that you write some 3-4 objectives giving the explanation of what one can learn from a given research. More details about structural components of this type of an essay one can see in an attached help interview case study, as well as other papers uploaded to the site.

But one should mind that objectives are written individually for each particular case study and there’s no such thing as a versatile sample or a template. Think of the relevance of your paper for future studies and you’ll know what purposes to set forward.

    Developing Introduction

An introduction is the very initial part of a paper, which usually takes one or two paragraphs in total. It is exactly the section where you delineate a case study scenario and mention the setting. The introduction usually serves to help readers define what the main aspects of the work are and lead them to the understanding of the key message of an entire study. One may bring out a brief outline of a conducted experiment/observation and make some remarks regarding its results.

    Mentioning Backgrounds

The following couple of paragraphs (or more) can be devoted to the description of background information. One may go into detail about the experiment, write about scientific premises, mention findings, etc. It is a part of a case study in which you expand on the facts provided in the introduction and move to mentioning the most relevant aspects of the paper. You are supposed to write the following:

    ● Research methods

    ● Data retrieving tools

    ● Findings/results

    ● Statistics

    ● Quotes/Links to research

    Writing the Main Part

As derived from the name, the main part is the largest part of the assignment. Here you add all the figures, numbers, statistical analyses, and other integral components of your case study. Uncovering the main part or the body might take some couple of pages to write. However, one shouldn’t focus on the length since it’s all about giving evidence and not just empty phrases.

    Making Conclusion

The conclusion summarizes the given facts and brings closure of the entire topic. Here you make your thesis restatement, mention findings once again, and make assumptions regarding the further study. Normally, this part of assignment consists of three to five sentences and doesn’t exceed 130 words in length.

    Adding Finishing Touches

One should mind that composing a case study doesn’t end up on a conclusion part. Although, you’ve finished the writing procedure your paper is not yet ready to be delivered. Check your current order of paragraphs; you might actually want to make changes or delete some irrelevant piece of information. Same refers to grammar/spelling mistakes – proofread your essay carefully.

    Attaching Appendix

All additional material (charts, graphs, questionnaires, etc.) should go here. But make sure that the things you add are of direct relevance to the research you’ve conducted. You should never include anything that doesn’t refer to your study. Appendixes normally go after the reference lists and may take up to several pages.

As a conclusion to the above written post, case studies are both responsible and peculiar kinds of academic assignments that allow students to try on the role of a scientist, engineer, doctor, etc. The task requires precision, knowledge of the topic, and maximum focus on a conducted experiment. It is also expected that you add plenty of links to scholarly resources to prove that your findings are totally credible. By the resources you choose your teachers may speak a lot of your ability to do a research. So choose the scientific sources wisely.

I believe that these beautiful creatures belong to their natural environment, the forests of Siquijor!

    Marvel at the Cambugahay Falls

Its cascading waterfalls are a sight to see. The Cambugahay fall is a three-tiered waterfall that is unlike any other waterfalls you’ve seen. It is definitely different from the usual waterfalls you would see. The light green waters it has gives it an even more earthy feel to it. If fairies existed, this is where they would want to go.

If you still haven’t had your fill of seeing and getting to swim in waterfalls, Lugnason falls can be your next stop. Quite similar to the Cambugahay and you can be assured that you can enjoy the falls peacefully.

Stop by at some Heritage Churches

Old buildings always have this unique charm to them. Most especially if they are buildings built for religious purposes, such as churches or mosques. And in Siquijor, there are many heritage churches that are interesting to see. Not only because they are old and still sturdy, but also because even back then, art was already expressed so intricately in the design of churches.

Saint Francis de Asisi Church of Siquijor

    Lazi Church
The San Isidro Labrador Church of Lazi

    Visit the Lazi Convent

But if you really want to visit something that some even consider it a relic, it is the Lazi Convent. The Lazi Convent is the one of the oldest in the province. Its age is just one of the many reasons why people are astounded by it. The structure and design of it is done in such a simple way but its charm is unique.

Discover the Amazing view at the Triad

Sometimes all you have to do is just appreciate a moment, a scene, or a place for you to enjoy life. And the Triad has the most breathtaking, astounding, and heartwarming view that you will ever see in Siquijor. There really are no words to explain how majestic the place is and how wonderful is the feeling it can give you.

The Stunning Mountain View at Barangay Canlambo

March 2017, 9:00AM. Finding the alternative way going to the upland Barangay of Canlambo from Larena town proper - for our usual community visits, we unexpectedly found a good spot to see one of the province’s stunning mountain ridges. We simple named the spot as “Canlambo view deck”. I am imagining a more beautiful photograph if only the shot was taken early in the morning when clouds and sunrise blends magically. My fault, I forgot to record the exact GPS!

See the Oldest house in Siquijor

A little of old in the new is always good. The oldest house in Siquijor may not be a number priority on your list, or it might be the grandest looking old house that you expect, but it still is old enough to have its own story.

Located (along the highway, facing the sea) in Barangay Libo, Enrique Viallanueva town, Cang-isok House is the oldest known surviving house in Siquijor. All historical structures have had its fair share of stories. This one definitely has.

Siquijor | The Majestic Cambugahay Falls of Lazi

Sometimes the best vacation you can have is not wherein you’re staying in a hotel room with majestic pools and cool aircon. There are times that the best way to relieve your stress is to remove yourself from modern things and immerse yourself in places that make you embrace nature.

    Cambugahay Falls of Siquijor

You get the same majestic pools and cool breeze but in a more natural setting.

Cambugahay Falls in Siquijor is definitely a way better choice for a vacation than going to a hotel. Why is that? Because, there is nothing better than being one with nature. And this is the go-to place for it.

    Cambugahay Falls of Siquijor

Cambugahay is a waterfall with 3 major tiers. Each tier is somewhat shallow in its height however the width of the falls itself makes it look like they are curtains covering every rock behind it. At the bottom of the falls you would find a beautiful basin that has quite cerulean blue or turquoise color that looks like water where mermaids would swim and bathe. Sometimes when the water hits its basin, a small mist occurs which makes it look quite mystical. But just the look of the falls itself is inviting enough to make you want to take a dip.

    Cambugahay Falls of Siquijor

Once you do take a dip it feels like all that heat that is bottled up inside you because of all the stress and fatigue you’ve been feeling just goes away. The water is just cool enough to give you a relaxing and soothing feel. The water from the falls originates from natural springs that are located in the mountain areas of the island.

When you go to the lowest tier of Cambugahay, you’d definitely feel like a child not only because you’d be waddling around in the basin but because there is also a swing here that you can ride. And it is also great for some photo op since the background is beautiful. And if you want to feel some thrill, you can choose to jump off from the top of falls since the water is deep enough for your canon ball jump. Just make sure you’re jumping off from the right tier, so better ask your guides to be sure.

And just in case you got tired of all the swimming, all the jumping, and all the swinging, you can sit back and relax in the tables and chairs found in the area. You can also bring your own snacks so you have something to munch on. Just remember to throw them in the proper place!

And if this isn’t enough for you, here are additional waterfalls you can also see in Siquijor.

You can also check out Lugnason Falls. Its water basin is deep and the height of the falls is higher. Something you’d enjoy because not a lot of people visit it, so you can have it all to yourself.

Now if you really want to see something of great heights, Cangbangag falls would be something that make you tilt your head up and look how the falls soar up in the sky.
