The March Madness betting odds will start to roll out after the NCAA Tournament field is announced, and this year’s tournament will end in New Orleans, Louisiana. The NCAA Tournament is always a huge deal for sports fans, and the Final Four location plays a big role.

Since this year’s tournament is set to take place in New Orleans, now would be a great time to take a closer look at the city. New Orleans is considered a top travel destination in the United States, but you might not know why.

This is a city that is loaded with terrific tourist attractions, but we have chosen some of the best travel destinations for you. If you are planning to escape to New Orleans at any point in time then here are some locations that you need to visit.

French Quarter

Without a doubt, the biggest tourist attraction in the city of New Orleans is the French Quarter. Most people come to take a look at the architecture in the French Quarter, but this is also a portion of the city that is loaded with great entertainment and dining options.

Bourbon Street is the most famous street in the French Quarter, but it can become extremely crowded and hard to navigate during peak tourist times. You can spend a couple of days on the French Quarter and never run out of things to do, but you will have to be comfortable being around other people.

Mardi Gras takes place in the French Quarter, and that is one of the biggest events in the United States.

WWII Museum

If you are someone that enjoys history then you will have to make a stop at the WWII Museum on Magazine Street. This is the National WWII Museum and there are plenty of exhibits that touch on the battles that took place in both Europe and the Pacific.

This is a very interactive museum and there is much more to do than simply look at the exhibits on your own. There are also entertainment and dinners held at the National WWII Museum and it’s worth the trip, even if you aren’t someone that enjoys learning about wars.

St. Louis Cathedral

Jackson Square is another popular part of New Orleans, and there is plenty to do in that location. One of the highlights of a visit to Jackson Square includes a stop at the St. Louis Cathedral.

The St. Louis Cathedral was built all the way back in 1794 and it is still in use to this day. This is a massive structure and should be on your list of sights to see, even if you don’t plan on visiting the cathedral to worship.

City Park

Depending on the weather, City Park is a popular travel destination in New Orleans, and there is no shortage of things to do at this location. City Park is home to both the New Orleans Botanical Garden and the New Orleans Museum of Art.

Golfing and tennis are also available at City Park, and this is a 1,300 acre plot of land that provides plenty of space to move around.

Audubon Zoo

Audobon Park is another popular tourist attraction in New Orleans and the Audobon Zoo is the highlight of this part of town. The best way to get around the zoo is by taking the “Swamp Train,” and tickets are available everyday that the zoo is open.

After visiting the zoo, there are still plenty of other opportunities in the park, including several small lakes and a golf course. This is obviously a great destination for families, but anyone will enjoy the options at Audobon.

Louisiana Children’s Museum

The final destination on this list is geared especially for families and it is the Louisiana Children’s Museum. New Orleans isn’t typically a good tourist destination for kids or families with young kids, but the Louisiana Children’s Museum is a great place to visit.

This museum is open seven days a week in the summer, and it’s a great place to go to escape the heat. The Warehouse District is where the Louisiana Children’s Museum is located and that’s a much slower part of town.
