Satisfied with my street dancing shots, I decided not to witness the showdown performances of contingents from five municipalities of Camiguin in the annual Lanzones Festival at the provincial Grand Stand in Mambajao. Instead of braving the scorching heat of the sun to witness the colorful display of costumes and the rhythmic-ethnic dance moves of the participants, (unplanned) I headed to Catarman to check its latest tourism offering- the Tuasan Falls.
Tuasan Falls, the newest tourist attraction in the province of Camiguin, is located in Barangay Mainit, Catarman. Barangay Mainit is more or less 45-minute jeepney ride from the capital town Mambajao. From eskina Mainit, where big signage of Tuasan Falls is posted, another 10 minutes (more or less) habal-habal ride to reach the spot.
The road going to the falls is 90% developed and paved (during my visit). Yep, it's an easy access to the newest gem of the province compared with past years wherein the road is only passable by habal-habal then trekking or horseback riding.
Tuasan Falls is less-visited compared with the popular Katibawasan Falls. I mean we’re less than 20 on that day unlike in Katibasan where flock of tourists come and go every hour. But I’m afraid it will not take too long considering the road development. Anyway, I salute the local government of Camiguin for having a clear plan and good projects on Eco-tourism without sacrificing environmental protection and sustainability.
I love the natural setting of big rocks that complements with the flow of cold-bubbling drops directly going to a mini-lagoon with crystal-clear water surrounded by rich flora. The water is really cold - refreshing!
